Tiananmen Square- Home to the student led demonstrations regarding anxieties over the country’s future, the number of civilian deaths in this area are estimated in the thousands. The square contains the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. (Beijing)
Terra- Cotta Warriors Museum – sculpted to guard Emperor Qin upon his death, the sculptures depicting armies were only discovered in 1974. The thousands of detailed life-size models represent the army that united China at the end of the Warring States Period (476–221 BC). They were moulded in parts, fired, then assembled and painted. It is considered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, and one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. (Xian)
Jade Buddha Temple- the temple was built to keep two jade Buddha statues which had been brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen. The temple was destroyed during the revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty. Fortunately the statues were saved and a new temple was built on the present site in 1928.(Shanghai)
